An earthquake struck rural S.C. late Thursday evening, the US Geological Survey said

A magnitude 2.2 earthquake struck Greenwood County late Thursday evening, according to the US Geological Survey.

The earthquake, which was the 17th in South Carolina this year, occurred around 11 p.m Coronaca in Greenwood County.

It happened about 2 miles (3 kilometers) below the surface, the USGS said.

The last earthquake to hit South Carolina was on September 24 between Catawba, South Carolina and Jaars, North Carolina, according to the South Carolina Emergency Management Division.
