An Idaho man caused a 10-hour police standoff last year. He has just been convicted

A Nampa man faces no more jail time after resisting arrest on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant and sparking a 10-hour standoff with police last year.

Rodolfo Reyes, 37, pleaded guilty to resisting arrest and obstructing officers who arrived at his home in July 2023 to arrest him on charges of domestic violence causing traumatic injury. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail for the crime, but the days were suspended and he will serve probation.

Reyes will be on probation for one year without supervision. He must not commit any new crime or misdemeanor and must keep the court informed in writing of his current address and phone number, according to court records.

Reyes still faces bond and will appear in court in August, court records show.

Police had been looking for Reyes for months before he came into conflict with police. Authorities said he did not have custody of his son and took the child from a gas station. According to previous Idaho Statesman reporting, law enforcement issued an Amber Alert, and the 2-year-old was found three days later.

Nampa police said in a news release that its specialized enforcement team, along with the U.S. Marshals Service, set up a perimeter around the property after Reyes “refused to come to the door” and ignored law enforcement orders to leave his home. to previous Statesman reporting.

Law enforcement officers also tried to use gas to lure Reyes out of the home, but police say he remained inside. Officers eventually found him in a crawl space of the home using drones, took him into custody and booked him into the Canyon County Jail, police said.

Reyes’ public defender did not respond to requests for comment.
