An Inver Grove Heights man dies in a weather-related crash on US 52

An Inver Grove Heights driver died Saturday after crashing into another vehicle on an icy road, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Willard Henry Pohl, 74, was driving onto the on-ramp from Concord Boulevard to northbound US 52 in Inver Grove Heights when he lost control of his Chevrolet pickup at the top of the ramp and crossed into the northbound lanes, colliding with a Mazda CX-90 also traveling northbound on 52. The Mazda came to a stop in the left lane, while the pickup stopped on the left shoulder.

A man, woman and four children, ages 17, 14, 12 and 6, from Spring Valley, Minnesota, were in the Mazda. None of the Mazda passengers were injured, according to the State Patrol.

In addition to the fatal crash, there were 183 property damage crashes, 18 injury crashes, 54 vehicles off the road, five spinouts and four jackknife crashes between midnight and 6 p.m. Saturday, the State Patrol reported on X.
