Dreamforce 2024, Salesforce’s annual conference in San Francisco, was set to begin Tuesday at the city’s Moscone Center and has already impacted traffic in the South of Market area.
The conference, which showcases the latest in artificial intelligence and customer relationship management tools, is one of the city’s largest annual events. According to Salesforce, the Dreamforce 2024 event is expected to bring in nearly $90 million to the local economy.
The conference is returning to San Francisco after earlier uncertainty about the event’s continued presence in the city. Salesforce CEO Mark Benioff told the San Francisco Chronicle last year that he considered moving the event elsewhere due to concerns about outdoor homelessness and drug use. In November, Benioff and Mayor London Breed made a joint announcement that Dreamforce would return.

Streets around Moscone Center have been blocked off since last week in preparation for the estimated 170,000 people attending the world’s largest AI conference. Howard Street between 3rd and 4th Streets was closed, as was 4th Street between Mission and Howard Streets, with other traffic being routed around the area or restricted to local traffic.
Also north of Market Street, in the area around Union Square, there will be detours for traffic heading south toward Moscone Center for the duration of the conference.
According to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, no detours were needed for Muni service during the event, but minor delays are expected in the area surrounding the event.
The 2024 Dreamforce conference is scheduled for September 17-19.
