Antioch police are warning of the recent wave of armed robberies of bank customers

Antioch police said Friday they are investigating “nearly a dozen” robberies related to bank visits in the past 90 days.

Police said the victims were robbed after leaving local banks. Four of the robberies happened at a different location after the victims left the banks. In six other cases, robberies took place in bank parking lots.

Among the robberies was: the early morning robbery of two Contra Costa County Fair employees last month who posted nearly $90,000 in honest earnings. That incident happened around 2 a.m. on May 23.

No explanation was given as to why the two employees of the Contra Costa County Event Park Fair Grounds, who were tasked with making the nightly deposit of revenue after the Contra Costa County Fair ended, did so at that hour.

Authorities say the suspects stole the victims’ cellphones, wallets and money.

According to police, detectives arrested two suspects in the robbery after a foot chase. One of the suspects was carrying a firearm. No details were provided on when the suspects were arrested or whether they were linked to more than one incident

Police asked the community to be vigilant and take precautions. They said that people should trust their instincts and be aware of their surroundings, and that they should show confidence and leave as soon as they sense problems.

They also advised against carrying large amounts of money, walking in well-lit areas and not hesitating to report suspicious behavior to authorities.
