Are Lexington’s 4th of July festivities postponed or canceled due to bad weather?

The city of Lexington is bracing for inclement weather ahead of festivities planned for the Fourth of July.

Meteorologists with the National Weather Service are predicting a high chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout Thursday. The chance of precipitation Thursday is 80%, with storms beginning as early as Wednesday afternoon.

The city of Lexington has numerous events planned for the Fourth of July on Thursday. They are all scheduled to go ahead rain or shine, but may be postponed or even canceled if inclement weather occurs.

Patriotic concert in Transy

The concert is scheduled for Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Transylvania University and Gratz Park. The city said the show may be postponed if bad weather is expected.

Bluegrass 10,000 and Fun Run

The race is scheduled to begin at 7:25 a.m. Thursday for wheelchair racers, followed by runners and walkers about five minutes later. The city said rain is likely during the race, but it will go ahead unless there is high winds or bad weather, which could delay the start.

Fourth of July Festival and Market

The festival is scheduled for the Robert F. Stephens Courthouse Plaza, while the market will be at Henry A. Tandy Centennial Park on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The city said that if extreme weather occurs, the area will be evacuated for a delay and people should seek shelter.

Public reading of the American Declaration of Independence
