The National Weather Service (NWS) in Sioux Falls said the winter system shifted further south overnight Tuesday, raising confidence that a band of heavier snowfall of up to 4 inches or more between Interstate 90 and State Highway 14 is possible during the day can be.
Winter weather advisories have already been issued for northern and western Minnehaha County through Tuesday at 6 p.m., the NWS said. These areas include Beadle, Jerauld, Sanborn, Brule, Aurora and Davison counties. Five to four inches of snow is possible in those areas, with some isolated areas where snowfall could be two inches or more, the advisory said.
“Plan for slippery roads,” was the advice. “The hazardous conditions may impact commutes on Tuesday morning and evening.”

When will the snow stop on Tuesday?
The peak of snowfall across the area is expected to be between 9am and 6pm. “The models continue to wobble and the track could still shift north or south,” the NWS said.
South of I-90, up to 2 inches of snow is possible.
Beginning at 6:30 a.m., the NWS forecast snowfall will be at its highest during the day, but is expected to decrease after 3 p.m. as the system moves into Minnesota.

Wednesday evening: After midnight 20% chance of snow. Partly cloudy, with temperatures dropping to near 3pm around 8pm and then rising to around 8pm for the rest of the night. East-southeast wind 10 to 25 km/h, turning south after midnight. Wind gusts of up to 20 km/hour can occur.
Thursday: 30% chance of snow, especially before noon. Partly sunny, with temperatures rising to almost 29 at 9am and then dropping to around 16 for the remainder of the day. Stormy, with a south-southwesterly wind of 25 to 40 km/h, becoming north-northwesterly in the afternoon. Wind gusts of up to 35 km/h can occur.
Thursday evening: Partly cloudy, with a low around 0. Stormy, with a northwesterly wind at 15 to 20 mph, decreasing to 5 to 10 mph after midnight. Wind gusts of up to 30 km/hour can occur.
Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high around 16.
Friday evening: Partly cloudy, with a low around 5.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 21.
Saturday evening: Partly cloudy, with a low around 9.
