An allegedly armed carjacking suspect barricaded a home in Cerritos Monday afternoon, prompting a standoff with police.
It is unclear exactly when the incident began, but officers from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department gathered outside the home, located in the 13400 block of Elgers Street, as they attempted to get the suspect to surrender.
Despite being linked to a carjacking, officers said the suspect was not barricaded in a car, but rather in a home. They provided no information about what started the standoff or where the theft occurred.
LASD’s Special Enforcement Bureau was called to the scene to assist, arriving in two BearCats as they worked to de-escalate the situation.
Officers say the victim appears to be OK.
