Police say 19-year-old Jaylen Mosley was trying to steal Tuttle’s car when he shot him. He was arrested shortly after the shooting.
The Tuttle family shared a statement with Channel 2’s Eryn Rogers on Monday afternoon read:
“We are devastated that David was drawn into the senseless violence that is so widespread in communities large and small today. We are grateful for the swift arrest of the suspect by the Atlanta Police Department and are working with authorities and the court to ensure justice is served for this crime. David was an Atlanta native, raised in Ansley Park and a member of the South Atlanta community. He was a beloved husband, brother, uncle and friend. A Renaissance man, artist and master craftsman, he was a creative and kind soul with a wonderful sense of humor who will be greatly missed.”

“I don’t know him, but most of the guys that hang out here do,” said store owner Solomon Tesfamichael.
At the time of the shooting, Mosley was a fugitive from Houston, Texas, on charges of criminal mischief. Court documents obtained by Channel 2 Action News shows he failed to show up for his court hearing in October after being accused of damaging someone’s door by trying to pull it open.
Investigators say Mosley was captured on a security camera pulling down his mask and then covering his face again. They say that with one movement they could get a good look at his face.
Mosley was scheduled to make his first court appearance Monday morning, but canceled the hearing. His next court appearance is scheduled for three weeks.
