With the summer solstice just around the corner, the scorching heat has arrived just in time.
The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey, predicts several high temperature records will be broken this week as increasingly hot air spreads across the region.
What’s the weather like in Delaware?
According to the National Weather Service, much of Delaware will be under a heat warning from 10 a.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday before falling under an extreme heat watch from Wednesday morning through Saturday evening.
The highest temperatures will occur Friday and Saturday and could possibly last into next week, the NWS said.
The NWS projects daily and monthly high temperature records with maximum heat indexes reaching as high as 105 degrees in parts of the Northeast. Nighttime temperatures won’t dip until the mid-70s, offering little relief.
Most of Delaware is at high heat risk, with a high of 90 degrees Monday before temperatures rise to 99 degrees in Wilmington on Friday.

June 18: 95 degrees in 1957
June 19: 100 degrees in 1994
June 20: 97 degrees in 2012
21st of June: 98 degrees in 2012
June 22: 98 degrees in 1988
