Two-alarm fire in San Jose damages two homes

The San Jose Fire Department responded to a two-alarm house fire in the city’s Mayfair neighborhood Friday afternoon, injuring one person, according to the San Jose Fire Department.

Firefighters were called to the 1800 block of Stowe Avenue around 2:10 p.m., the fire department said on its X account.

Six fire trucks responded to the call, according to PulsePoint, a website that tracks fire department responses.

The house fire spread to a second home in the 100 block of Heller Place, which is the intersection with Stowe Avenue.

One person was taken to the hospital due to smoke inhalation, the fire department said. A message from the fire brigade at 3.23pm asked the public to avoid the area

There was extensive damage to the Stowe Avenue property, displacing four residents. There was also significant damage to the property on Heller Place, which displaced an additional four residents and three pets. Three outbuildings were also involved.

According to the fire brigade, the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Units will remain on site for several hours to clean up the mess.
