Auraria Campus: Pro-Palestine protest camp abandoned

DENVER (KDVR) — An encampment of pro-Palestinian protesters at Denver’s Auraria Campus was abandoned Saturday and cleanup efforts have begun. Despite this, much of the campus remained restricted.

The encampment first began on April 25 at the Tivoli Quad.

FOX31 spoke with some protesters who were packing on Friday. One said the protests would continue in other locations and another said they would leave for the summer holidays.

According to the Auraria Higher Education Center, the quad and all other green spaces on campus are closed until further notice for repairs and other works.

The center said that out of an abundance of caution, access to buildings on campus will be limited to critical personnel and operations until further notice.

A campus spokesperson said the protesters had cost the campus a total of $290,000, although details on that number were not released.
