The Aurora Police Department posted on Facebook Friday that someone claiming to be an Aurora police officer has allegedly been calling people and saying there are warrants for their arrest and that they can resolve the case by paying over the phone.
Police said the caller spoofed the main police phone number, 330-562-8181, so it appeared on caller ID.
Aurora police say neither they nor other law enforcement agencies would make such calls. The calls are a scam and people are not allowed to pay. If in doubt, the police recommend hanging up and calling the police on the legitimate number.
