A baby was delivered after a pregnant woman was found with a gunshot wound in an apartment in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, and later died, police said.
According to Lansdowne Police Chief Ken Rutherford, officers responded to an apartment building on the 200 block of North Wycombe Avenue on Thursday around 7:30 p.m. about a gunshot victim.
Police said officers first encountered the person who called 911 and then found the eight-month pregnant woman suffering from a gunshot wound. Authorities pronounced the woman dead at the scene but took her to hospital in hopes of saving the unborn child.
Police said the baby had been delivered and was listed as critical. According to police, the person who called 911 has been arrested.
Lansdowne police and detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the shooting as a homicide.
