‘Bad Boys’ reunites Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, Cyndi Lauper’s documentary shows her true colors, Pat Sajak gives ‘Wheel of Fortune’ one last twist

Hello friends! I’m Kelsey, your guide to all things pop culture for Yahoo Entertainment, and this is the The list, our weekly roundup of what’s new and noteworthy. This week, my thoughtful colleagues recommended a slew of upcoming releases to watch, stream, listen, read, and binge. Let me walk you through my favorites.

  • When: Bad Boys: Ride or Die is in cinemas from June 7.

  • What to know: The buddy cops, played by Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, are back in action, complete with intense standoffs and signature jokes.

  • In this episode, their deceased captain is linked to drug cartels, so they try to clear his name.

  • Editor-reporter Laura Clark, who has already seen the film, told me that the nostalgia factor here is huge. It is the fourth film in the franchise, which started in 1995.

  • Why I’m going to watch: At this point I feel like I grew up with Smith and Lawrence. What am I supposed to do, not show up at the family reunion? I have to!

  • When: Gypsy Rose: Life After Lockup will air on Mondays on Lifetime starting June 3.

  • What to know: The docuseries explores Blanchard’s struggle to adapt to a new normal after a life of alleged abuse, prison time and social media fame – if that’s even possible.

  • She has been a tabloid figure since news of her arrest broke in 2015. She orchestrated the murder of her mother, who allegedly abused her by proxy via Munchausen syndrome.

  • The case inspired viral documentaries and fictional adaptations. Blanchard served seven years in prison, during which she amassed a significant fan base on social media.

  • Since her release in December 2023, she has made headlines for the turmoil she faced in her personal life, including breaking up with the man she married while behind bars to reunite with a former fiancé.

  • Why I’m going to watch: I don’t think we’ve ever had a celebrity like Blanchard. It’s hard to look away as she navigates this brave new world of parole officers and viral selfies.

  • When: Let the canary sing begins streaming on Paramount+ on June 4.

  • What to know: You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who doesn’t know at least one Cyndi Lauper song, but this documentary reveals a backstory that even longtime fans may not know.

  • In her own words, Lauper recalls early fame, day jobs and landing on Tipper Gore’s infamous ‘Filthy Fifteen’ song chart.

  • Barbara Kempe from our copy desk said she loved the movie about the Go-Gos from the same director, and I naturally trust anyone who fixes my grammar on a regular basis.

  • Why I’m going to watch: “Girls just want to have fun” applies to me too!

  • When: Sajak will host his final episode on June 7 on ABC.

  • What to know: After four decades and three Emmys, the beloved host is ready for retirement.

  • He’s not leaving Wheel of Fortune whole. He plans to stay behind the scenes as an advisor for a few more years.

  • Entertainment reporter David Artavia told me that along with Vanna White, new host Ryan Seacrest will set up a new one turn on the show – pun intended.

  • “[Sajak] has had such an impact on this entire country. He has become a companion to many people, a best friend,” Seacrest told Fox News.

  • Why I’m going to watch: Usually I like to put a game show on in the background, but I’m excitedly cheering on whoever wins will bankrupt the network with its huge profits in Sajak’s honor.

  • When: Entrances and exits can be purchased from June 4.

  • What to know: Best known for his beloved portrayal of Cosmo Kramer Seinfeld, there’s a lot to tell about Richards’ life since the end of the series.

  • He reveals secrets about the show in the book, from the network’s concerns about the height of Kramer’s hair to the other actors in the running to play the character. (Spoiler: no one!)

  • Reporter Dylan Stableford explained that Richards’ post-Seinfeld career is virtually non-existent compared to the careers of his fellow co-stars following a racist tirade during a stand-up set at the Laugh Factory in 2006.

  • “I have no defense. I screwed up,” he wrote, according to an excerpt from the Daily Beast.

  • Why I’m going to read: Jerry Seinfeld and Julia Louis-Dreyfus have both recently starred in movies, so reading this and listening to Jason Alexander’s podcast has me Seinfeld bingo.
