Baltimore Scene by Sloane: Black Girls Voting Ball

It was hard to decide what was most glamorous for the 7th Annual Black Girls Vote Ball: the guests or the venue. Martin’s West was fully decked out in a dazzling setting, with more than a thousand glitzy guests in attendance.

For BGV founder and CEO Nykidra “Nyki” Robinson, this wasn’t just one of Baltimore’s most glamorous events. It was the most glamorous event. She admitted that every year she tries to ‘lead from the top’ by donning a lavish dress from a local designer – this year a beautiful cornflower blue number from Steven White.

“People don’t often have something that makes them excited to dress up. We’re celebrating Black women and we’re in the room with some of the region’s most prominent people. So now women are talking to their friends and planning what to wear,” she said.

It all led to the main emotion of the evening.

“We are impartial. No matter how you felt about the outcome of the election, people are looking for a little joy,” she said.
