Hasina fled to India after being driven out in a mass uprising in July and August that killed hundreds of protesters and injured thousands. She faces many lawsuits over the deaths, including some on charges of crimes against humanity.
The Dhaka-based International Crime Tribunal has already issued arrest warrants for Hasina and her close associates, and the government has sought the help of international police organization Interpol for her arrest.
Last month, Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, the country’s interim leader, said his government would seek Hasina’s extradition from India.
The Yunus-led interim government has pledged to try Hasina and others in her government for alleged crimes related to the uprising against her, and has invited the United Nations to help investigate the killings.
Hasina also called for investigations as she questioned the killings, saying many deaths may have involved others outside the security forces.
Authorities say more than 750 people have been killed and thousands injured during the mass uprising.
