BATTLE CREEK – A 32-year-old woman was arrested after reporting her children missing early Friday.

According to a news release from the Battle Creek Police Department, police responded to the first block of Goguac Street shortly after 2:30 a.m.

Officers spoke with the Battle Creek woman who reported her 7-year-old and 1-year-old children were missing from the 300 block of Hamblin Avenue.

The mother stated that she left her home around 5pm on Thursday and returned around midnight to find the children missing.

However, evidence found on Hamblin Avenue showed she returned home after 2 a.m., according to police.

The children were found about three miles away at the home of a family friend after an extensive search by the BCPD and the Calhoun County Sherriff’s Office.

The children were safely handed over to relatives.

BCPD said the mother was arrested and transported to the Calhoun County Jail for child neglect.
