Bedford police are urging caution as they search for a suspect in the death of an elderly woman

Bedford police are asking residents to exercise caution as authorities begin searching Thursday for a man wanted in connection with the death of a woman.

Friday around 4:15 p.m., officers responded to the 2400 block of Meadow View Lane in response to a call about an unconscious person.

Upon arrival, officers found an elderly woman who was pronounced dead, according to a news release.

During the investigation, police obtained surveillance footage showing a man wearing a black shirt, black tights and white tennis shoes approaching the victim’s front door. The woman answered the door and spoke to the suspect, who police said wanted to use her phone. After she refused, the suspect forced his way into her home, the release said.

The video shows the suspect leaving a few minutes later.

Bedford Police are urging residents to be aware of their surroundings and not open their doors to someone they don’t know, especially if they are home alone. Residents are urged to contact police if they notice suspicious activity in their area.
