A Thanksgiving staple for many in New England won’t be in stores this holiday season. Bell’s Foods says the traditional filling won’t be available this year due to a supply issue.
Other Bell’s products like it famous seasoningGravy, crispy onions and turkey brine are in stock in supermarkets, the company says.
Why isn’t Bell’s filling available in stores?
Some customers have taken to social media to ask what happened to Bell’s filling during the making of their filling Thanksgiving dinner preparations.
“Let me know if you see it, my Thanksgiving success depends on it!” said one Facebook post.
“It’s just not Thanksgiving without Bell’s stuffing!” another person wrote.
The previous owner ran into financial trouble, according to Bell’s Foods LLC, and production was halted. Bell’s product line was “in danger of disappearing,” a company spokesperson said, but the new owner purchased the brand and was able to resume production.
Unfortunately, stuffing is the only Bell offering that wasn’t ready in time for Thanksgiving. It is expected to be back on the shelves early next year.
“We are pleased to have these key Bell’s products available again, but due to the timing of the acquisition, we regret to announce that Bell’s Stuffing will not be available during the 2024 holiday season,” said Dave West, one of the owners of new company, a statement said. “We understand how important this product is to our loyal customers and we share their disappointment. However, we are committed to bringing Bell’s Stuffing back to stores in time for next year’s holiday season.”
History of Bell’s Herbs
Bell’s was founded in 1867 by William G. Bell in the kitchen of his home in Newton. He came up with the savory seven-spice blend and sold it through a push cart in Faneuil Hall.
In 2018, a factory in South Weymouth was pumping out a million boxes of the popular seasoning, which features a blue turkey on the cover, every year. The new owner tells WBZ-TV that Bell products are now manufactured outside of Massachusetts.
