Cam Taylor-Britt is not one to be afraid to speak his mind, no matter how brazen or how likely his words are to become his opponent’s bulletin board.
With the Cincinnati Bengals set to take on the Washington Commanders in Week 3, the Bengals cornerback was asked what he thought of the Commanders’ offense, particularly starting quarterback Jayden Daniels.
“They don’t let him do much,” Taylor-Britt said Thursday. “They keep it real simple for him. Nice college offense, [Kliff] Kingsbury, the OC. They move guys around here and there, but just keep it real simple for him. I hear his pass percentage is really high, but he only throws short routes. A few in-between things, quick throws.”
There is something to Taylor-Britt’s comments.
According to NFL Next Gen stats, Daniels’ average for completed yards is second only to Chicago Bears rookie Caleb Williams (2.2) and Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson (11).
Daniels’ longest completed air distance (34.4) is also the third-lowest in the NFL, ahead of only Daniel Jones of the New York Giants and Jacoby Brissett of the New England Patriots. Richardson (65.3) again tops the charts.
Short, quick throws mean more completions, as Taylor-Britt noted of Daniels. The Commanders quarterback is third-best in the NFL through two weeks with a 75.5 completion percentage. He has yet to throw a touchdown or interception this season.
Taylor-Britt keeps talking
This is the second week Taylor-Britt has made comments about an opponent that could be used as message board material. Before their Week 2 game against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Bengals cornerback said that Chiefs rookie receiver Xavier Worthy only has “speed” and “can run straight. Jet sweeps and just run straight. He can’t do much else, so that’s about it.”
Worthy had two receptions on four targets for 17 yards and was held out of the end zone during a 26-25 Chiefs win.
Taylor-Britt did have his moment while covering Worthy, making a spectacular one-handed interception in the fourth quarter.
