Biden aims to finalize the clean fuel rule before he leaves the White House

MANAUS, Brazil (Reuters) – Democratic U.S. President Joe Biden aims to finalize a rule on a clean fuel tax credit before he leaves office on Jan. 20, a senior White House official said on Sunday.

The Clean Fuels Program, which would provide credits for the production of sustainable jet fuel and other lower-emission transportation fuels, will launch in 2025.

“I’m not going to make any announcements other than to say that we are working very hard to finalize the rules,” the official told reporters. The official gave no guarantee that the work would be completed.

The Biden administration also plans to release a study on the environmental and economic impacts of liquefied natural gas by Jan. 20, the official said. Biden ordered a pause in new LNG export approvals early this year to conduct the investigation.

President-elect Donald Trump, a Republican, has said he will quickly reverse the pause in his second term.
