Biden will deliver a farewell address to the nation on Wednesday

WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden will deliver a farewell address to the country next Wednesday, the White House announced Friday.

His speech will be delivered from the Oval Office, a location usually reserved for momentous occasions and big news.

The White House did not release additional details about what the president would discuss.

Biden’s speech will come less than a week before his political rival, President-elect Donald Trump, is inaugurated.

NBC News previously reported that Biden planned to give two major speeches — including a farewell address — about his legacy before leaving the White House.

According to sources familiar, his farewell speech is expected to reflect on his time in various political positions and include a message to Americans about the future of the country.

During farewell speeches, presidents have traditionally reviewed their proudest achievements, wished the new administration success and reflected on the state of the country.

Trump gave his farewell speech four years earlier, although it was pre-recorded. During his speech, he said he extended “our best wishes” to the then-incoming Biden administration, saying the country would “pray for his success in keeping America safe and prosperous.”
