Police officers are investigating after they found a body in a pond near a parking lot in Maple Grove off Interstate 94 on Saturday.
The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 3:35 p.m. from someone reporting the body in the water at the Elm Creek Rest Area, according to a police statement. A maintenance worker at the rest area first discovered the body.
The statement said an “adult individual” had been found in the water, but no other details were given. Megan Larson, spokeswoman for the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, said she could not comment on the victim’s gender until the person’s family was notified.
Authorities from the Maple Grove Fire Department, Maple Grove Police Department and the State Patrol also responded to the call. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating the cause of death, and the Sheriff’s Office is also investigating.
