BOUNDARY WATER, Minn. – The body of a canoeist who went missing in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness was found west of Curtain Falls Monday morning.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office says it has recovered the body of a 40-year-old Travel Gramof Lino Lakes, na more than two weeks of searching.

Authorities found it the body of 41-year-old Jesse Haugen of Cambridge, near Curtain Falls several days earlier.

Officials with the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office say two canoes went over the falls. Two people – one of whom was seriously injured – were rescued from the area, near the Canadian border.

Between eight and 12 people were on the ground at a base camp and used boats, canoes, drones and K-9 teams to search the area.

Bad weather had hampered the search for Grams and Haugen. The sheriff’s department had said at some points that cloud cover was too low for aerial surveillance, and rain prevented crews from searching until conditions improved.

Superior National Forest officials had closed trails, campgrounds, portages and bodies of water in the area to assist in the search.
