ALLIANCE – An 11-year-old boy is accused of making a false kidnapping claim against a Marlboro Township man that led to his arrest.
Police said the boy has been charged with making a false alarm, a misdemeanor, for lying that a 39-year-old man tried to grab him from a yard in Alliance on Sept. 22.
The man was arrested, but the attempted child abduction charge was later dropped after a Stark County grand jury declined to indict him Monday. The man still faces a felony drug possession charge for a separate case.
The kidnapping claim fueled rumors and other accusations against the man on social media, none of which have been proven to be true.
The boy was charged “after reviewing all evidence, including interviews with the juvenile,” said Sgt. Chris McCord wrote in an email.
