A 13-year-old boy was shot and killed Friday evening in the North Lawndale neighborhood, officials said.
The boy was standing on the sidewalk in the 1300 block of South Independence Boulevard around 8:20 p.m. when an unknown gunman shot at him, police said.
Chicago fire crews took the boy with a gunshot wound to the head to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition but was later pronounced dead, police said.
The boy’s identity was not immediately revealed.
No one was in custody and detectives were investigating the shooting, police said.
