Boy, 17, shot dead in violence-plagued Bronx block

A 17-year-old boy was fatally shot in the back about two blocks from his home in the Bronx — and just blocks from where a teenager was killed in 2022 and a young boy was shot and wounded last year.

Xavier Navarez was shot multiple times in the back on Oak Terrace near Beekman Ave. on Saturday around 7:45 p.m. in Mott Haven.

Medics rushed him to Lincoln Hospital but he could not be saved.

Xavier was shot just meters from where a group of masked gunmen shot and killed 17-year-old Jordany Aracena on September 25, 2022.

Jordany was an aspiring drill rapper and police sources said at the time that police believed he had been killed in retaliation for his lyrics. Days later, a 17-year-old suspect was arrested for the shooting.

On September 12, 2023, an 8-year-old boy was shot in the leg as he got off a school bus on Beekman Ave. near E. 141st St. A witness told the Daily News that he was caught in the crossfire between two competing gunmen. The boy survived.
