A boy who suffered critical injuries after being shot in the parking lot of Pleasure Ridge Park High School during a football game on September 29 has died, Louisville Metro Police said in a statement.
The boy was pronounced dead at UofL Hospital around 2:14 a.m. Tuesday, LMPD spokesman John Bradley said. He has not yet been publicly identified.
Another youth injured in the shooting was taken to Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening wounds.
Police have not yet arrested any suspects in the shooting, Bradley said Tuesday. LMPD had previously said officers followed several leads and believe people involved in the shooting entered a neighborhood next to the school. The homicide unit is leading the investigation.
Officials said gunshots were heard from the football field around 8 p.m., during the fourth quarter of a game between Pleasure Ridge Park and Male high schools. LMPD officers, who were already on the scene after being sent to the high school for a problem, found a boy suffering from gunshot wounds.
Principals from both high schools sent a joint email to parents the night of the shooting, writing that after the shots rang out, several fans “went under the stands while players were escorted to the locker room for their safety.”
“We will not tolerate violence of any kind,” the email from Jefferson County Public Schools read. “As a community, we need to work together to support each other. If your student needs to talk to someone about what happened, our counseling and mental health teams are always available.”
