Brazilian motorcycle police chase is absolutely crazy

In case you haven’t been paying attention for a long time: Brazil has quite a few problems with robbers on motorcycles. Typically, these people choose a target and involve at least two people: one who takes a purse/bag or detains someone to steal money or other valuables, and then a getaway driver. Sometimes they strike in groups with two or three bicycles.

Things have gotten so bad with these bandits that some Brazilians have plowed them down with their cars when they see a robbery in progress. Others wrap up warmth and turn the tables. You might wonder why people would be so fed up with the problem, but if you see a police officer on a motorcycle trying to chase down this bunch of robbers on a motorcycle, it might give you a hint.

Both are excellent riders and seem to know the city streets like the back of their hand. It looks like something out of a movie, except there are no random explosions or other deliberate violence. But there are plenty of nail-biting moments where the robbers and the cop take blind turns at high speed, something that could easily have ended in tragedy.

The number of close calls involving cars, buses, heavy trucks and inanimate objects is insane. Both take the speed bumps on the road with grace and show the ability to negotiate corners without hitting curbs that would be the envy of many drivers.

However, the chase cannot go on forever. As the officer continues to follow them, you see the passenger and rider keep looking back as if they can’t believe they haven’t lost him. That’s when the suspect rider takes things to a whole other level, going through narrow alleys that are barely wide enough for both motorcycles, and it’s a gamble that definitely backfires.
