Brink recalls humorous childhood memories with ‘theatrical’ Steph originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
Everyone now knows Steph Curry, the NBA icon.
But not many people know Curry the way WNBA rookie Cameron Brink does. Growing up close friends with the Curry family, Brink saw the Warriors superstar, her godbrother, through a lens that few see.
“Honestly, he’s pretty much the same as he is now,” Brink said recently during an appearance on the “Podcast P with Paul George” show. “There’s a story I remember, it stands out so much. I was there [Steph’s sister] Sydel in the pool at their house in North Carolina and we splashed water on him and he pretended to melt like the Wicked Witch of the West. He’s kind of a theater kid. He is very theatrical and silly.
“He just always acts like a fool and is silly. He’s just a joy, he’s always so much fun to be around. He’s taught me to just bring the joy into everything, which I think we all know he does a great job. You always see him laughing and joking. Life is just a joy when you are around him.’
While the basketball world has seen Curry put on a show countless times and bring his theatrics to the hardwood with his mind-boggling shooting skills and artful ball handling, it may come as a surprise to some that in private, Curry is a Broadway star.
“He looks a bit like a theater kid… He just always acts like a fool and goes crazy… You always see him smiling… He’s joking, like life is just a joy when you’re with are near him.”

Brink, who starred at Stanford for four seasons, was selected No. 2 overall in the WNBA draft last month by the Los Angeles Sparks.
In her WNBA debut against the Atlanta Dream, Brink finished with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting (66.7 percent) from the field and 2-of-3 (66.7 percent) from 3-point range, with two rebounds, four assists and two blocks in 19:46 minutes.
With her respective success in women’s basketball, Brink knows better than to challenge Curry to a game of HORSE.
“We’ve been playing more video games, like stupid things,” she said. “We really should. I don’t even want to try in HORSE because I just get angry. I’m competitive, but I’m realistic with him. He’s going to beat me up.”
