British PM makes unfortunate gaffe over ‘return of the sausages’ during serious speech

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer made an unfortunate blunder during a speech at the party conference on Tuesday when he wrongly called for the return of “sausages” instead of hostages held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Speaking at the Labour Party’s annual conference in Liverpool, Starmer called for de-escalation between Lebanon and Israel and a ceasefire in Gaza.

He also called for the return of hostages held by the terror group after he made a mistake, but from which he quickly recovered.

“I call again for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the return of the sausages – the hostages – and a renewed commitment to the two-state solution: a recognized Palestinian state alongside a safe and secure Israel,” he said.

Israel says it has carried out retaliatory strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon and hit Hamas in Gaza

The mistake quickly went viral.

During his speech, Starmer was also booed by a member of the audience who shouted about Gaza.

“This guy clearly has a pass from the 2019 conference. We’ve changed the party,” Starmer joked in response, Reuters reported. “While he was protesting, we’ve changed the party. That’s why we have a Labour government.”

Several hostages are still being held in Gaza, nearly a year after the group attacked Israeli communities on October 7, sparking the latest conflict between Hamas and the Jewish state.

Israel has proposed ending the war if Hamas releases the remaining hostages, along with the demilitarization of Gaza and the creation of an alternative governing body. Hamas has rejected several offers to end the conflict.

Israel has bombed Gaza and vowed to hunt down those responsible for the deadly attack, while also having to defend itself on a second front against shelling in the north from Iranian-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Smoke in Lebanon

Thick smoke rises over the southern suburbs of Beirut after an Israeli attack.

Israeli forces said they continued to carry out dozens of air raids about Hezbollah targets in Lebanon and that artillery and tanks continue to shell targets close to the border.
