Browns release Tyler Huntley

The Browns kept four quarterbacks on their original 53-man roster, but on Thursday they’re cutting that number back.

According to multiple reports, the Browns will release Tyler Huntley, leaving Deshaun Watson, Jameis Winston and Dorian Thompson-Robinson on the roster as the team heads into their Week One matchup against the Cowboys.

Before Tuesday’s trade, there was talk of the Browns trading Huntley, but that remains an option until a deal is officially announced.

Huntley signed with the Browns this offseason after spending his first four NFL seasons with the Ravens. He had runs as a starter with Lamar Jackson sidelined at the end of the 2021 and 2022 seasons, helping the team reach the playoffs last year. They lost to the Bengals in a Wild Card game, but Huntley was ultimately named to the AFC Pro Bowl roster despite making only four starts due to other players opting out or declining invitations.

That honor may have been somewhat dubious, but Huntley’s experience and talents should make him a contender for a backup job with another team as his tenure with Cleveland comes to an end.
