Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb has suffered another major injury setback.
The 28-year-old, who has had a troubled injury history, was ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs after an apparent non-contact foot injury in the third quarter. After the game, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters that Chubb had broken his left foot.
“I’ve had a front-row seat to what he’s been able to do. I can’t tell you how much I respect him as a person,” Stefanski said at the post-match press conference. “Really, really disappointed about this injury. But that doesn’t change the fact that he continues to inspire this football team with the way he goes about every day. And I know this is just another obstacle that he will overcome.”
During a play fake, Chubb ran to the line while Jameis Winston held the ball. Chubb then appeared to take a heavy step on his left foot and pulled himself up, keeping his left foot in the air. He was initially listed as questionable, but was officially ruled out by the team after an evaluation.
The Chiefs went on to win the game 21-7.
After the game, Chubb left the locker room with crutches and a boot on his left foot, according to Zac Jackson of The Athletic.
Chubb missed the start of the season after suffering a brutal left knee injury in September 2023; he previously injured the same knee in 2015. After spending more than a year overcoming the injury, Chubb made his 2024 season debut in the Week 7 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, scoring a touchdown in his return.
Before leaving Sunday’s game, Chubb had nine carries for 41 yards. He also lost a fumble and dropped a pass that led to Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton having a wild interception.
