Brynna Knepp named Lilly Scholar

Dec. 18—MONTGOMERY — A Barr-Reeve High School senior has received the Daviess County Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship.

This year’s winner is Brynna Knepp and she was thrilled to receive the award.

“It’s a wonderful thing. I’m so grateful to have received it. I know there were a lot of valuable candidates,” Knepp said. “I feel so honored to receive it this year.”

Knepp is the latest in a line of Lilly Endowment Scholarship winners from Barr-Reeve. She says it is no coincidence as the school encourages students to achieve.

“I think it speaks wonders about the education we receive here at Barr-Reeve. We have a great staff that really works with the students and goes the extra mile to help us perform to the best of our ability and help the students perform” , she said. . “I think it all shows in the performance of the students and our state rankings as a school.”

Knepp is the daughter of Alex and Tera Knepp, and she thanked both her family and the school for helping her land the honor.

“I am so grateful, thankful and honored. I have to thank a few people, my parents, Mrs. (Chastity) Sward is our guidance counselor and helped me a lot in preparing the application,” she said. “Special thanks to my parents and her and all the teachers at Barr-Reeve who helped me get here.”

Knepp says her plan is to attend the University of Southern Indiana to obtain a bachelor’s degree before attending Indiana University’s Maurer School of Law.

“I will use the Lilly Endowment money for my undergraduate degree. This will allow me to put some money aside for law school,” Knepp said. “The Lilly Scholarship is a wonderful thing. It has helped so many children in the past and I know it will help me so much. I am grateful that the community foundation and the Lilly Endowment are making this available and allowing children to have the opportunity opportunity to continue their education.”
