According to multiple reports in Italy, the head of the Italian delegation, Gigi Buffon, has requested to meet with the FIGC to discuss his future with La Nazionale and their long-term plans.

There were rumours that the former goalkeeper had decided to leave, but according to Sky Sport Italia and Tuttosport, this has not yet happened.

Buffon has even demanded a meeting with FIGC leaders to discuss long-term plans and his position within the project.
Luciano Spalletti appointed Buffon as head of the Italian delegation in September 2023.
According to reports, Buffon wants to ensure that the conditions are created to continue the project after the disappointing elimination from the European Championship.
According to Tuttosport, Spalletti is also said to be in talks with the 2006 World Cup winner.
Neither FIGC president Gabriele Gravina nor national coach Spalletti stepped down following Italy’s elimination from EURO 2024, but Gravina did call for federation elections for November 4, 2024.
