A Bugatti drive through Morocco ended in disaster for a pair of Chiron owners, when two of the rare hypercars crashed into each other while driving along a two-lane road – and of course there’s video of the impact and aftermath.
The tour, which is underway as of the publication of this story on October 22, features all kinds of Bugatti Chiron and Veyron variants. Bugatti CEO Mate Rimac himself is present and posts the contents of the trip on his social media pages. Perhaps unsurprisingly, however, the Bugatti boss hasn’t posted anything about the incident; Instead, footage of the crash between two Chirons can be found elsewhere, with the best video of what happened below on YouTube Short.
In the video, Bugatti’s caravan weaves its way through slower traffic, but not in a particularly coordinated manner. Instead of passing in order, the second Chiron (which appears to be a Super Sport) in line decides to move into the passing lane to pass both the leading Chiron (which appears to be a Pur Sport) and a truck in front of them . Just as the Super Sport is deep in the blind spot of the leading Bugatti, Pur Sport moves into the passing lane and collides with the other Chiron that is trying to overtake everyone.
This causes a chain reaction: on the first pass, Bugatti loses control, crashes into the truck they were all trying to pass and slides off the road into the ditch. The truck – an innocent bystander in all this chaos – is pushed off the road by the collision and lands in a ditch and overturns.
As for the Chiron penetrating the passing Chiron, it escaped with minor damage from initial contact. However, the other Chiron appears to be badly damaged and even appears to be unable to steer, as can be seen in photos from this Moroccan news agency.
This seems to have been a classic, albeit expensive, case of not checking to see if someone was in your blind spot before moving. And in case you were wondering, no, the Chiron is not offered with blind spot monitoring technology.
