Burbank police opened fire on a suspected van thief early Saturday, according to police.
According to a statement from Burbank police, the shooting happened around 1 a.m. near Buena Vista Street and Vanowen Street.
Officers patrolling the area spotted the vehicle and confirmed it had been stolen before conducting a “high-risk traffic stop,” the statement said.
“During the traffic stop, an officer-involved shooting occurred,” BPD said.
The driver of the van, a white Ford Econoline, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment for minor injuries. No officers were injured, the statement said.
According to department officials, the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave as part of standard procedure. The shooting is under investigation internally and by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
