Detectives in Wilson County and Mount Juliet are investigating a shooting Friday into Saturday that left a 27-year-old man dead following an armed robbery, according to police.
Around midnight, the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting at Cedar Creek Marina, located at 9120 Saundersville Road.
According to the initial investigation, Wilson County sheriff’s deputies and Mt. Juliet police officers believe the shooting followed an armed robbery and occurred as the suspects were leaving the scene.
The victim was found unconscious in the parking lot with gunshot wounds. Police attempted to treat him until emergency services arrived.
Mount Juliet police described the deceased victim as an “innocent bystander.” The victim was not immediately identified.
The armed robbery occurred shortly after the Cedar Creek Marina restaurant closed, police said. Suspects assaulted two employees who were forced to open the cash safe, police said. Both employees were treated at the scene and released by medics, police said.
According to police, the restaurant itself is within the city limits of Mt. Juliet and the parking lot falls under the jurisdiction of Wilson County.
