Police arrested a Caldwell High School student Thursday morning for bringing a gun to school.
The school went into lockdown on Thursday morning after the incident was reported.
Caldwell High School Principal Anita Wilson sent an email to parents around 10:30 a.m. Thursday saying a student had brought a gun to campus. The student fled campus after being confronted by an administrator and was “immediately arrested by law enforcement,” according to the email shared with the Idaho Statesman.
According to the Boise School District, the school will remain in a hallway check as of 10:30 a.m. During a hallway check, students remain in their classrooms and continue their studies while the interior doors are locked.
“It was resolved quickly and went to hallway control,” Cheryl Sanderson, the school’s chief financial officer, told the Statesman by phone. “Everything is fine.”
Wilson praised the “incredibly responsible students who were very courageous and reported it to the administrator” in her email.
“Thank you to the brave students who saw something wrong and reported it,” Wilson said. “Thank you to the Caldwell Police Department for their quick response.”
According to the email, the school planned to have an additional police presence for the remainder of Thursday.
“We want to continue with ‘business as usual’ today so that students can continue to access their education,” said Wilson.
Caldwell police declined to comment and advised the Statesman to speak to the school district.
