Call for medical help ends with 1 death from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound

An incident Friday afternoon in Apopka began with a call for medical assistance and ended with the death of one person from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, the police department said.

The Apopka Police Department Communications Center received a 911 call regarding a medical episode at an apartment at the Oasis at the Wekiva Apartment Complex, 518 Lake Bridge Lane, around 4 p.m., according to a department news release.

The news release stated that upon arrival, officers provided aid to the patient until the Apopka Fire Department arrived.

After the patient was transported to the hospital, officers began questioning a male resident of the apartment when he pulled out a gun, the release said. Officers immediately retreated from the apartment.

Central Florida Metro SWAT responded and upon entering the apartment found a man dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to the police, there is no danger to the public and this is an isolated incident. No further details were provided.
