Call of shots fired in Fairfield Twp. leads to arrest of Hamilton teen

Sept. 16 – A “teenage feud” between rival groups in the Five Points area led to a 16-year-old shooting at a car with five people inside, Fairfield Twp. police said.

The 16-year-old boy faces several felony charges, including five counts of aggravated assault. He also is charged with having weapons while disabled, which stems from a previous domestic violence conviction in juvenile court, said Fairfield Twp. police Sgt. Brandon McCroskey.

“There are a lot of threats on social media that we’re still investigating, so between the two of them, it appears to be a feud between a couple of groups in that area,” he said. “It’s youth issues and kids having guns that shouldn’t have them.”

At approximately 5:45 p.m. Saturday, police were dispatched to the area of Milton Street and Tylersville Road for a report of shots fired. During the investigation, they found a vehicle “under fire” on Exeter Avenue, around the corner from where the complaint originated.

“We identified five minors in the vehicle who sustained minor injuries. No one was actually shot,” McCroskey said.

Investigators quickly identified the minor and attempted to serve an arrest warrant at his home with the help of Hamilton police, which was located in the 1700 block of See Avenue in the city. He was not home, but McCroskey said the teen’s stepfather encouraged him to turn himself in to police.

He was arraigned in juvenile court Monday morning and is scheduled to appear in court again next week. McCroskey said the teen remains in juvenile detention.

Because of the feud, the Fairfield Twp. Police Department will have a “very, very heavy presence” in the area as a precaution, McCroskey said, adding, “We make a conscious effort to be very visible in that area, and we’ll continue to do that.”
