Campbell man accused of threatening a police officer after allegedly firing gunshots

A Campbell man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly firing a gun outside his Savona-Campbell Road residence and threatening to obtain another firearm to use against a responding Steuben County deputy, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Raymond M. Burns, 32, of Campbell, was charged with menacing a police officer, a misdemeanor, and second-degree reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor.

Police responded to a report of a person firing a firearm and yelling on Savona-Campbell Road.

Burns allegedly fired several gunshots outside his home. After being contacted by a sheriff’s deputy, he then allegedly threatened to buy another firearm to use against responding police, said Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard, who added that Burns attempted to enter his home before he was taken into custody.

He was brought before the Centralized Arraignment Court in Bath and released on his own recognizance. Burns will appear again in Campbell Town Court at a later date to answer the charges.
