Dec. 6 – Detectives are asking the public for help identifying the driver and SUV that fatally struck a man crossing the street in Dayton last month.
The crash victim was identified as 67-year-old Phillip Drozd.
Dayton police and medics responded to the intersection of North Keowee and East Third Street on Nov. 25 around 6:20 p.m. after Drozd was struck by a black Saturn SUV traveling north on North Keowee Street.
Police determined Drozd had the “walk” signal when he started crossing, but that changed to “don’t walk” when he was halfway through, according to a Dayton Police crash report.
Drozd was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The driver and the vehicle involved fled without identification.
CCTV footage shows a witness driving a green, older Jeep Wrangler and talking to the suspect for an extended period of time. Police are asking this witness and any other witnesses who can identify the suspect to call Detective Chris Metzler at 937-333-1359.
