Canton couple accused of not feeding children, charged after baby dies

CANTON – The parents of an 11-month-old child who died Tuesday are facing criminal charges for failing to properly feed and care for their child.

The 26-year-old father, Eric W. Rush, who contributed to his son’s death by intentionally withholding nutrition and medical care, investigators allege was charged Tuesday in Canton Municipal Court with permitting child abuse.

The baby’s mother, 30-year-old Tyasia R. Singleton, is accused of failing to feed and care for her son, leading to malnutrition. The criminal complaint filed by Canton police said her actions may have led to the boy’s death.

The boy, Royale Rush, was pronounced dead Tuesday at Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, said Tamara “Tammy” Wilkes, a forensic investigator for the Stark County Coroner’s Office.

Eric Rush is charged with two counts of domestic violence, child endangerment and permitting child abuse. The crimes are alleged to have occurred between Feb. 1 and Tuesday.

The child endangerment charge filed against Singleton alleges she left the boy in his father’s care, violating an agreement with child welfare authorities that allowed her to have custody of him. According to the criminal complaint, two loaded guns were found within reach of two children, the now-deceased infant and a 2-year-old.

The only date attached to Singleton’s charge is for domestic violence, which reportedly occurred Tuesday.

Rush and Singleton appear to live in the city of Canton, although they have different addresses listed in the lawsuits.

Both parents will be arraigned in Canton Municipal Court at 9 a.m. Thursday. No attorney is listed for either in the lawsuits.
