Saturday night’s game marked the first time since last week that the Vancouver Canucks’ JT Miller and Elias Pettersson played together on the power play. However, the team still lost 5-4 to the Ottawa Senators in extra time. Pettersson then spoke to the media.
“I don’t know why people make something up,” he said after the loss.
However, this quote was not about the game. This quote was in response to the supposed “rift” between himself and Miller that has ripped through the headlines like wildfire since it was addressed by Canucks captain Quinn Hughes and Head Coach Rick Tocchet earlier today.
“I think they both went through their own struggles this year,” Hughes said. “I believe in both, I think they are both great players and great people.”

“It’s all about the top. It’s about me coaching, it’s always about the weapon,” Tocchet said. “It’s not about the name on the back. You’re going to have arguments. You’re going to get into an argument.
“My job is to make sure that guys have a voice and that you can move forward with things like this,” the coach added.
“Honestly, I didn’t really know there was a story,” Brock Boeser added after the loss. “I’m not on Twitter or anything, so I don’t see things like that. I heard some rumbling.”
“It’s a family here and we’ve just got to get on with it and play the way we want to play,” Hughes said.
Vancouver will play their last game before the Christmas break on Monday, December 23. The pick drop is scheduled for 6:00 PM PST.
