Car catches fire on Main Street in Oneonta

November 27 – A car caught fire in front of the Community Bank on Main Street in Oneonta, Wednesday, November 27.

A Oneonta Police Department dispatcher said Wednesday that no injuries have been reported and there are no threats to the public.

Oneonta Fire Chief Brian Knapp did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday.

Chris Patterson, a Cooperstown resident who was across the street at The Autumn Cafe, witnessed the event. He said the fire started around 4:45 p.m

The car turned out to be a Lincoln Continental from the 1970s or 1980s. Patterson saw smoke pouring from the hood before it burst into flames. He said there was no one in the car.

When firefighters arrived on scene, the fire was extinguished quickly, in about 10 to 15 minutes, Patterson said.
