PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A car struck a fire hydrant and launched it through a window before crashing into a home in Philadelphia’s Kingsessing neighborhood Saturday evening, responding firefighters told CBS News Philadelphia.
Eyewitnesses and firefighters described a chain reaction in which a car hit a fire hydrant, sending it flying into the window of a home before both crashed into a house near South Frazier Street and Greenway Avenue.
Fortunately, no one in the home was injured at the time, crews told CBS News Philadelphia. After the crash, the driver was able to climb out of the car and taken to hospital.
The city’s Department of Permits and Inspections is assessing the damaged support beams on the home’s porch. Another house nearby was also damaged in the crash.
