MINNEAPOLIS — The lives of nine Minneapolis cats were put to the test after a terrifying 12-story fall.

Rue, a 1-year-old male cat, somehow survived a fall from a balcony onto a sidewalk, according to Home for Life Animal Sanctuary in Stillwater.

The cat suffered a broken leg, a foot and both sides of her jaw. A human dentist is helping her with a procedure to glue her upper and lower canines together, which will hold her jaw in place and allow it to heal.

“Rue is a brave and resilient cat who still tries to eat canned food despite her damaged mouth and grooms herself despite her paws in casts,” Home for Life said.

Minneapolis Animal Care and Control said there is no ongoing investigation into Rue’s fall and that there is “no reason to believe it was a criminal act.”

Rue isn’t the only inspiring story of Minnesota cat survival this year. Hercules, one of dozens of cats rescued from a car at a Chisago County rest stop in 2022, earned his first modeling job with Target. The cat survived a maggot infestation and a severe jaw fracture, with his tongue hanging out of his mouth, which caught the attention of an animal talent agency.
