(CBS DETROIT) – Cedar Point announced Thursday that it will open North America’s “tallest, fastest and longest” tilt roller coaster next year.
According to a press release, the new coaster, Siren’s Curse, is 165 feet tall, has a top speed of 58 mph, features 13 zero-gravity moments in the air and two 360-degree barrel rolls in zero-gravity.
The backstory of the attractions refers to the park’s location, namely close to Lake Erie.
“Siren’s Curse harks back to the legend and lore of mysterious creatures that live beneath the surface of Lake Erie; often talked about – but never spotted,” Cedar Point said in a press release. “The lake’s sirens who lured sailors to their underwater doom with their sweet, seductive songs will finally come ashore and attempt to trap guests in a sinister two-minute destiny of nonstop coaster innovation.”
The main feature of the ride is that riders “climb an old 160-foot Lake Erie shipping crane” and then stop at a “broken down” section of track. The platform holding riders then tilts to a 90-degree position, forcing riders straight down as the track locks into place. Cedar Point released a video of what riders can expect from the Siren’s Curse.
“Record-breaking thrills have always been at the heart of Cedar Point’s roller coaster lineup, and Siren’s Curse lives up to that standard,” said Carrie Boldman, Cedar Point’s vice president and general manager. “The entire ride is a nonstop action-packed experience, but that first precarious tilted position where you hang on – looking straight down – and wait for the track to connect will be a signature moment that our fans are going to love. It’s a first for Cedar Point, and we’re excited to bring it to our guests.”
With the addition of Siren’s Curse, Cedar Point now has 19 in its lineup.
Cedar Point also recently launched the Top Thrill 2 roller coasterthat the original Top Thrill roller coasteralso known as The Dragster.
In May, a week after the opening, Top Thrill 2 Roller Coaster Has Experienced an “Extended Closure” undergo mechanical changes.
